The Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives on Monday have claimed the East-Asian ally have been strongly considering deferment on the island nation's debt.
During a video conference between the Ambassador and Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Mr. Zhang Lizhong stated that China was considering the deferment of debts for 77 countries along with Maldives.
The Monday discussion further detailed towards China's prospective assistance to the Maldives in the development of a new medical laboratory to assist the island nation in its efforts against viral contagions.
China has remained an active ally to the Maldives, a bilateral bond which became stronger during the administration of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom through multiple trade arrangements.
The East-Asian giant has assisted Maldives in procuring necessary medical equipment such as PPE, face masks and face goggles.
Moreover, China has assisted in the development of quarantine facilities in Maldives.
