The government of the United Arab Emirates UAE has donated essential medical supplies and equipment worth USD 5 million to the Maldives as the country fights the Covid-19 pandemic on all fronts.

Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid confirmed the donation today via tweeter.

In his tweet, the Minister thanked the government of UAE for the generous donation of essential medical supplies and equipment weighing 72 tons. He said that the shipment arrived today via a special cargo flight.

Minister Shahid added that UAE is an invaluable friend and partner to the Maldives, time and time again.

Foreign Minister said that the medical supplies and equipment donated by the UAE include a PCR extraction machine, 2 real-time PCR systems, and diagnostic extraction kits.

Full list of essential supplies and equipment donated by the UAE include:

  • 100, 000 bottles of Sanitizer
  • 225,000 KN9 95 Masks
  • 5000 Glove Boxes (100 gloves per box)
  • 75,000 Disposable Gowns (with Shoe cover)
  • 10,000 face shields
  • PCR extraction machine
  • 30,000 Diagnostic extraction kit
  • 2 Real-time PCR Systems

Authorities said these donations would enhance the Covid-19 testing capacity in the Country as the Maldives looks beyond the immediate threat of the pandemic and move to the ‘new normal’ way of life.
