The National Emergency Operations Center NEOC has decided to release Covid-19 positive patients that remain asymptomatic for three days without testing for the illness.

Speaking to the media, NEOC’s Dr. Nazla Musthafa Luthfee said that authorities have decided to change how positive patients are treated in the Maldives.

She explained that patients who contract Covid-19 and whose condition doesn’t worsen would be released from isolation within 14 days from the day the person tested positive for the illness.

She said that if the person remains asymptomatic for three days the person would be released from isolation. Dr. Nazla added that a PCR test would not be conducted for such cases.

She said that those who suffer complications of the illness are released after 21 days under treatment. She also said that even with the change, the authorities would conduct a PCR test for patients with weakened immunity systems.

Dr. Nazla said that PCR tests of Covid-19 patients done even after 4-5 weeks cames back positive for the virus.

She highlighted that the latest data showed that even if the PCR test comes back positive, the individual is unlikely to infect others with the virus.

Dr. Nazla citied the latest medical research on the matter and explained that patients with mild symptoms recover from the illness within 9 days. She added that patients with complications also recover within 21 days.
