Maldives Police Services has taken action against 294 individuals who violated the lockdown in Male’ Area yesterday.

Police said it had fined 277 people for breaking lockdown rules yesterday. Police said that this includes 256 individuals from Male’, 18 from Hulhumale’ and 3 from Villimale.

Since the lockdown began in mid-April, the police have fined a total of 7675 individuals for violating the lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Police arrested 17 individuals for repeatedly breaking lockdown rules yesterday. Police had said that all 17 were arrested from Male’. This takes the total number of individuals arrested to 437 in nearly two months of lockdown.

  • 3rd June-176 individuals fined, 21 arrested
  • 2nd June-202 individuals fined, 9 arrested
  • 1st June-196 individuals fined, 5 arrested

The Greater Male’ Area has been under lockdown since the 15th of April after the discovery of its first case of Covid-19. Although the authorities have eased the restrictive measures at the end of May, the number of individuals violating the lockdown has not reduced.
