Health authorities have reported discovery of 56 new positive cases of Covid-19 and 35 more recoveries.

On Monday, official spokesperson on Covid-19 developments in Maldives confirmed during the press conference at National Emergency Operations Center regarding the latest updates.

According Mohamed Mabrook Azeez, the spokesperson on the matter, the newly found cluster of positive cases included 27 locals and 29 expatriates. He however, did not disclose nationalities of the expatriates at Monday's press.

Moreover, Mabrook indicated all local cases with one exception had made contact with previously confirmed positive cases. From expatriates, four exemptions were made, who did not make contact with previous positive cases.

With this latest development the total number of positive cases reported in Maldives have spiked to 1829, out of which 1333 remain as active cases as new recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Maldives reported its sixth death related to the Covid-19 virus on Monday. The victim was identified as a 54 year old Bangladesh national.

On the other hand, Mabrook confirmed 35 individuals have recovered from the viral disease following treatment.

Mabrook confirmed the total number of recoveries in Maldives with this latest development have surged to 488.
