National Emergency Operations Center NEOC spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Abdul Azeez warns that if individuals were slack in maintaining social distancing protocols then a new lockdown might be put in place.
Speaking to the media, Mabrook said although officials have recommended individuals to wear facemasks when going outside, a lot of people were ignoring these instructions in the few days since authorities eased some of the restrictive measures taken against Covid-19.
He said some individuals were even taking children outside with them with these eases. Mabrook said that stores now appeared crowded and the more people were now on the streets at well.
Mabrook said although most want the lockdown to be lifted, there are many who are slack in practicing the instructions from the authorities
Mabrook said if the individuals were to ignore these instructions then the lockdown would be reinstated in its full effect but if the patrons practiced the measures as advised by health experts then the country can overcome this illness.
Mabrook reminded that many countries ignored the dangers and seriousness of this illness and that they suffered for it. He said the Maldives must learn from their mistakes and triumph against the global pandemic.
The country’s capital has been under lockdown since the 15th of April after the discovery of its first Covid-19 case. Last week, authorities announced easing the lockdown in phases with the first phase now in place.
