Police have fined 155 individuals yesterday alone for violating the lockdown imposed in Male’ Area to quell the viral outbreak of the Covid-19 global pandemic.

Police said 137 of the individuals were fined from Male’ and the remaining 18 were fined while found outside in Hulhumale without valid permits.

Police statistics show that until now 6085 people have been fined for violating the month-old lockdown in Male’ area including Male’, Hulhumale and Villimale’.

Police also said that 7 people were arrested for breaking lockdown rules yesterday including 6 people from Male’ and 1 person from Hulhumale’.

The police have apprehended 345 people for violating the lockdown since its implementation last April.

Police have said before that they have released several people arrested for lockdown violations but have submitted police reports to the Prosecutor General’s office to begin legal proceedings against the offenders.
