National Emergency Operations Center NEOC confirms 43 new cases of Covid-19 as authorities eased some of the restrictive measures implemented in the Male’ Area.

NEOC said the new positive cases take the total number of cases to a staggering 1481 in the Maldives. Health Ministry confirms that most of these cases are foreigners especially Bangladeshi nationals working in the country.

But more than 500 locals have also tested positive for the virus.

Meanwhile, NEOC reported that 10 others have recovered from the virus in the Maldives.

This takes the total number of recoveries in the country to 242.

Five people have died of Covid-19 in the Maldives. This includes an 83-year-old local woman, a 33-year-old Bangladeshi national, an 80-year-old Maldivian man, an 88-year-old local man (spouse of the woman to die first) and a 45-year-old Bangladeshi national.

With the capital city under lockdown for over a month, the government had eased some of its restrictive measures implemented in the Male’ area.
