Health Minister Abdullah Ameen says although some of the restrictive measures taken in the fight against Covid-19 have been eased, non-essential travel between the islands would still be banned.

Addressing the media, Minister Ameen said that non-essential travel between the islands would still be prohibited even if some of the lockdown measures taken in the Male’ Area have been eased.

Government authorities banned non-essential travel between the islands as part of the preventive measures taken to combat the Covid-19 global pandemic after it was discovered from the capital Male’ City.

This left thousands from the islands who had visited Male’ on short-stay trips stranded in the capital amid its lockdown.

Many from islands are still waiting for the green signal from the Government to travel to the capital where the virus has been rampant these past few weeks.

The government has been issuing special permits to those from the islands to travel to Male’ while authorities have been placing stranded islanders under quarantine before for 14-days before allowing them back to their islands.
