National Emergency Operations Center NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says the parliament did not consult the NEOC over its plans to hold a session in the Parliament chamber today.
Speaking to the media, Mabrook said the parliament secretariat called the NEOC to inquire about the lockdown expiry date but did not inform the center about its plans to hold a session inside the chamber in an official capacity.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed informed the Director-General of Public Health Maumoona Abubakoor that the parliament needs to hold a session with all its members before the 28th of this month. The lockdown of Male’ Area is set to expire on the 28th of April.
With this the parliament is set to hold its first session inside the chamber today for the first time in two months.
The parliament secretariat said the sessions would resume with added measures and that only 42 members would sit for each session.
It also said that the members would sit as per social distancing rules set by Health Protection Agency HPA.
