Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 58 new cases of Covid-19 as the government looks to ease some of the restrictive measures taken against the global pandemic.
In a tweet, HPA said that these 58 new cases include 18 Maldivians, 39 Bangladeshis, and an Indian.
A total of 1274 people have now tested positive for Covid-19.
Most of the individuals tested positive for the virus here in the Maldives are Foreigners especially migrant workers from neighboring Bangladesh living in the country.
Four people have died of Covid-19 here in the Maldives including three locals above 80-years of age and a 33-year-old Bangladeshi national.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Operations Center has announced that 5 others have now recovered from the illness in the Maldives.
Addressing the media tonight, NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said that with the addition of these five people, a total of 109 people have now recovered from Covid-19 in the Maldives.
This comes as the government contemplates easing the restrictive measures taken against Covid-19 especially in the Greater Male’ Area where the virus is rampant.
The Government had said that lockdown implemented in the Male’ Area would be gradually eased when it expires on the 28th of this month. The Government had said that it would allow communal prayers to be performed as well as government offices and schools to re-open but in phases.
