The Government declares Sunday, 24th of May as Fitr Eid 1441.

Speaking at the moon sighting ceremony held earlier tonight, Islamic Minister Dr. Ahmed Zahir said that the moon indicating the end of Ramadan and beginning of Shawaal has not been sighted in any part of the country nor have any Islamic country confirmed the sighting before the sunset on the 29th of Ramadan.

He said with this the government has declared that under the guidelines set by the Ministry, tomorrow is the 30th of Ramadan.

He also said that this year Fitr Eid would be celebrated on the 24th of May.

This year, Maldives celebrates the Fitr Eid amid the unprecedented Covid-19 crisis with communal Eid prayers banned in the Male’ Area and some islands that are currently under monitoring or have been under monitoring in the last 28 days.

The government had allowed other islands to begin congregational prayers but cautioned islanders to take measures to ensure safety during these trying times.

Islamic Ministry has urged citizens of Male’ area and other areas where communal prayers have been banned to perform Eid prayers within the safety of their homes.
