India evacuates 1488 of its citizens stranded in the Maldives amid Covid-19 crisis.
These Indians were repatriated via sea through its operation Samudra Setu on two of its navy ships. INS Jalashwa made two trips to transfer Indians stranded in the Maldives to India while INS Magar made one trip to the Maldives.
Indian High Commission in Maldives said in a tweet that Indians evacuated from the Maldives include 133 pregnant/medical cases and 38 children. It also said Indians from 22 cities were evacuated via these ships and that process of evacuation will continue through the air to different cities and ships to TN in the coming weeks.
The High Commission also said the evacuation flights from Male’ to India’s Bengaluru on May 22 and Delhi on May 23.
103 Indians have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives.
