The Male’ City Council gears up for the ‘new normal’ amid the Covid-19 pandemic as health experts say that the society now has to learn to live with the highly contagious virus.

In a tweet, the council said that social distancing is the primary strategy used to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

It said that to help increase the space between one another and to avoid gatherings, the council has started to draw distance markings near Markets and Malls in the city.

Speaking to ‘The Press’ Male’ City Mayor Shifa Mohamed said that these markings were drawn on outside major outlets on Majeedhee Magu and Sosun Magu and that this work will be on-going. She said all Council plans to draw such markings on all major roads of Male’ and it is working to decide the best way to move forward with regard to narrower roads and streets of Male’.

Recently, Police have tightened lockdown regulations by allowing each household to use their grocery permit once a week.

This measure was taken after health officials warned of a surge of Covid-19 cases in the next two weeks with the current surge hitting a peak by the end of the month.
