Maldives Police Service on Thursday warned of wide scale cyber attacks aimed at the doctors working in the frontline to counter Covid-19 contagion.
Authorities claim the attacks are targeted through popular messaging application WhatsApp. The attacks are disguised as codes sent via a WhatsApp contact or calls made from the said contact on the user IDs of doctors.
Once the code is sent and the message is opened, the security features of the phone become vulnerable and targeted for hacking, says police.
Police further said the contacts are disguised to appear as familiar contacts and the codes are originated from duplicated profiles.
Meanwhile, the authority have warned from doctors against opening messages of complaints from contacts that are seemingly familiar.
Maldives Police Service is currently investigating the matter.
