Maldives Police Services says Sinamale Bridge would be closed from 01:00hrs to 09:00hrs daily starting from tonight.
Police said the bridge would be closed to the public between these hours to further enhance the efforts to fight the rapidly spreading Covid-19 global pandemic.
Police also the 8-hour closure of the bridge connecting Male’ and Hulhumale would be in place for a period of two weeks.
Police added that only vehicles used for essential public services and vehicles used by security services would only be allowed to cross the bridge during these hours.
Male’ Area has been under lockdown since 15th April after the discovery of its first Covid-19 patient.
Maldives Police Services have been issuing delivery permits for businesses to continue providing essential items to the citizens of Male’ Area while also issuing a grocery permit to one member from each household to allow them to restock provisions every three days.
A total of 968 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives with 4 deaths recorded in the country so far. 40 people have recovered from the virus in the Maldives.
