Maldives Polices Services says a total of 197 individuals have been arrested for violating lockdown regulations.

In its latest update, Police said the 197 individuals include 181 apprehended from Male’, 14 from Hulhumale’ and 2 from Villimale. Police said 4 people were arrested yesterday for violating lockdown rules and all four were apprehended from Male’.

Meanwhile, Police have fined a total of 3710 people for breaking lockdown rules. This includes 3191 fined from Male’, 433 from Hulhumale, and 86 from Villimale.

Police said 151 were fined yesterday alone including 123 from Male’, 21 from Hulhumale, and 7 from villimale.

Health Protection Agency HPA announced the lockdown of Male’ Area after the discovery of its first case of Covid-19 on the 15th of April.

Since then HPA has extended the lockdown period but the number of positive cases has spiked in recent weeks with a total of 904 people infected with Covid-19 in the Maldives.
