Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Mohamed says a 92-year-old inmate serving jail term in Hulhumale’ Prison has passed away.
In a tweet, the Commissioner said that the inmate was bedridden and passed away last night.
He also said as per the protocol Human Rights Commission of Maldives, Police and Inspectorate were informed of the prisoner’s death.
Health Protection Agency HPA has been testing high risks populations for Covid-19 including the elderly and migrant workers living in congested housing quarters.
Also, people who die under suspicious circumstances are being tested for Covid-19.
Recently HPA and Maldives Correctional Services joined hands to test inmates and guards at Maafushi prison from which all samples came back negative for the pandemic.
