The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has confirmed more than 40 of its officials are included among the patients who tested positive for Covid-19 virus.

The development was confirmed by Chief of Defense Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal.

While speaking with local media, Major General Shamaal claimed the authority is among government bodies with highest reported positive cases of the virus. The Chief of Defense Force further attested most of these officers were dispatched at Covid-19 Village (Task Force).

Meanwhile Health Protection Agency (HPA) official Dr. Ibrahim Afzal noted 14 individuals from the MNDF cluster have already tested positive for the disease. The medical official further warned of cluster expansion.

As of 21:00hrs of 12 May, Maldives have reported a total of 904 confirmed cases of Covid-19 inclusive of the 31 recoveries. Out of the total 302 are Maldivian locals.
