Maldives government have decided to send off at least 1500 undocumented Bangladesh workers back to their home country.
Director of Communications Mohamed Miuvan of Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the ministry was working alongside Ministry of Economic Development and Bangladesh High Commission to repatriate workers within a week's duration.
Recent reports have highlighted of thousands of Bangladesh nationals living in Maldives without valid work-visas and travel documents. Many are alleged with working illegally while others are believed to have entered the country illicitly.
Prior to repatriation to Bangladesh, all its nationals will be tested for Covid-19 virus.
The ministry's Director of Communications further confirmed Bangladesh High Commission have affirmed repatriation flights to take back its nationals.
Maldives government commenced sending off undocumented workers back to home country in 21 March 2020.
