National Emergency Operations Center NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says 67 individuals were fined today for violating Male’ Area lockdown regulations amid the community spread of Covid-19.

Speaking to the media, Mabrook said police had informed that 67 people were fined for violating lockdown regulations today alone.

Mabrook also said that police had issued 17,000 delivery permits to different businesses operating in the Male’ Area while 28,000 grocery permits have been issued to households in Male’ area.

Police have allowed one person from each household to go outside for grocery and essential items shopping once every three days.

Male’ Area went under lockdown on 15th April after a woman living in Male’ with no recent travel history or connections to previous cases tested positive for Covid-19.

Police have been enforcing the lockdown with stricter measures by fining and also arresting those in violation of the lockdown.

But the number of people fined or arrested still remains high with the spread of the virus entering a new surge these past few days.
