Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 45 new cases of Covid-19 in the country with a surge of new cases confirmed by officials.

In a tweet, HPA said 20 locals and 22 Bangladeshis all tested positive for the virus today. It also said that 2 Nepalese nationals and an Indian national tested positive for Covid-19.

Earlier HPA had announced that 5 others have also been infected with the highly contagious virus.

HPA officials have said that a recent surge in cases has been recorded in the last couple of days with more and more people tested for the virus in the Male’ Area.

Today’s cases take the total positive cases in the country to 835.

29 people have now recovered from the illness in the Maldives including 16 locals and 13 foreigners.

3 people have died of Covid-19 in the Maldives. This includes an 83-year-old local woman, an 80-year-old local man, and a 33-year-old Bangladeshi national working here in the Maldives.
