National Emergency Operations Consultant Dr. Sheena Moosa says even with the current lockdown measures taken against Covid-19, about 900 people could die of the virus in the Maldives.
Addressing the media, Dr. Sheena said the initial projection of the infection after the confirmation of the community spread of the virus showed that around 2,000 people could die of the global pandemic in the country.
She said the new projection was based on the effects of the current lockdown measures taken against the virus and the compliance rate for these measures.
Dr. Sheena said even with these measures around 900 people could die of the virus. She added that if the health care system remains unburdened by the caseload of new Covid-19 patients, that this 900 could further be reduced.
In the projections presented by Dr. Sheena, it said a total of 77, 305 people would be infected with Covid-19 in this epidemic. It said that 13,568 people would be hospitalized out of which 5,805 people would need treatment at the ICU.
A total of 648 people have been tested positive for Covid-19 in the country with 3 confirmed deaths in the country.
