Health Protection Agency HPA reports 6 new cases of Covid-19 in the country.

Speaking at the latest press briefing, NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said the 6 individuals include 2 locals, 2 Indians, and 2 Bangladeshi nationals.

This takes the total number of positive cases in the Maldives to 648.

Most of the positive individuals are foreigners working in the country. This includes Bangladeshi, Indians, and nationals from other neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, 216 Maldivians have also tested positive for the virus including children, elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic illnesses.

20 people have recovered from the virus in the Maldives while 3 others have succumbed to the illness.

This includes an 83-year-old local woman, an-80-year-old local man, and a 33-year-old Bangladeshi man.

Based on the current surge in cases, authorities now predict that the infection spread will hit a peak on the 30th of this month and that 1,600 people would be tested positive on that day alone.
