Indian navy ship arrives in the Maldives to repatriate Indians stranded in the country amid the rapidly spreading Covid-19 global pandemic.
Indian authorities have said that the ship will take back 200 Indians stuck in the Maldives. This is a small number compared to the total number of Indians living in the country.
Official estimates say around 27000 Indians currently live in the Maldives for employment and other purposes.
Indian authorities have said that the repatriation ship would give priority to pregnant women, elderly, individuals with health issues, individuals who lost their jobs, Indians who wish to return home having lost a loved one, and Indian tourists stranded in the Maldives.
54 Indians have tested positive for Covid-19 in the Maldives.
