Authorities report 5 Maldivians have fled from the Herethera quarantine facility.

Maldives Police Service on Wednesday confirmed they received reports of five evading the facility, adding one of them have already been traced and found.

Local law enforcement further added they were currently attempting to trace the whereabouts of the remaining four locals.

Reports claim the escapees include former covicts released from local penitentiary facilities. Sources also claim the escapees made into the neighboring island of Hulhudhoo.

Herethera Resort was temporarily transformed into a quarantine facility by Maldives government to screen and test individuals flying from Male' to Addu City.

So far the facility holds 92 individuals in quarantine, as per Maldives government and health authorities.

Other sources also claim the escapees include locals belonging to Addu City and Fuvahmulah City.
