Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) was assisting a sinking sea vessel carrying 5 expatriates on board.
The local military confirmed they received report of a vessel sinking at the outlier sea of Laamu atoll Vadinolhu. The authority received the report around 16:45hrs on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers of MNDF Central Division were dispatched to assist the crew members of the sinking vessel.
Reports claim the vessel belongs to opposition party PNC's President and former Fonadhoo MP Abdul-Raheem Abdulla.
Maldives is currently experiencing rough seas in most parts of the country. Meanwhile MNDF and Maldives Disaster Management Authority have cautioned local vessel operators and owners to tighten safety measures while embarking.
