Local authorities have arrested 3 individuals for illegally entering into a local island amid state imposed travel restrictions due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
The Covid-19 pandemic, which is currently on a community spread, have resulted in Maldives government tightening safety measures across the country including travel restrictions both in and out of every inhabited island as well as tourist resorts.
Maldives Police confirm the 3 locals entered into the island of Laamu atoll Kunahandhoo on Sunday evening. Authorities attest they arrested the 3 trespassers around 01:16hrs on early Monday morning.
The trespassers used a wooden raft to travel from Maamendhoo of the same atoll to reach to neighboring island.
Authorities confirm the offenders were aged 29, 43 and 48 and were all local males. Gan Magistrate Court, of the same atoll ordered a remand of 15 days on the offenders.
Cases of illegal entrance into local islands amid the countrywide lockdown have been mounting recently.
