Members of the public at Haa Dhaal atoll Makunudhoo had protested on Sunday evening over hiked utility bills.
On Sunday evening, several members of the island's public had gathered in front of the utility company's premises. Fenaka Corporation is responsible with the supply of electricity at Makunudhoo.
Maldives Police confirm they received the report of the then ongoing protest sometime on Sunday evening.
The protestants argued the electricity bills were overpriced compared to previous months. They also claimed the utility company's Makunudhoo branch authority had avoided answering public concerns over the hiked bills, adding to their frustration.
Authorities further claim several protestants had trespassed into the Fenaka Corporation's Makunudhoo premises.
