Maldives Police Service have arrested seven individuals from Alif Dhaal atoll Fenfushi over threats made officers of the authority.
Local law enforcement on Sunday evening confirmed seven locals were arrested from the island around 23:30hrs. The arrested suspects had threatened officers of Maldives Police, damaged police property and attempted to intimidate the officers.
The suspects include locals aged 22, 26, 27, 31, 32, 34 and 37, all males.
Authorities report the suspects gathered in front of Fenfushi Police Station, damaged the front gate of the premises.
It was reported the altercation initiated due to tightened security in the island and recent crackdown on narcotic substances. Suspects have voiced their threats over police concentrating their search and confiscation of goods specifically belonging to the perpetrating group of individuals.
Suspects were presented at Omadhoo Magistrate Court, of the same atoll. Two of the suspects received a 5-day remand while the remaining received 10-day periods each.
Meanwhile, Maldives police is further investigating the incident.
