The island of Shaviyani atoll Narudhoo confirm total of 10 positive cases to the COVID-19 virus.

A COVID-19 Task Force official speaking to The Press, confirmed two locals of the island were amongst the positive cases discovered on Friday evening. With this the total number of positive cases from the island increased to ten as per the official.

Reports claim the new positive cases include the wife and child of one of the crew members of vessel named 'Amaaz' - which is the central subject in the viral contagion crossing into northern areas of Maldives.

Health authorities have already transferred 08 of the positive cases from Narudhoo to the quarantine and isolation facility at Dhonakulhi.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) medical officer Dr Ibrahim Afzal claims the transmission in the island is identified as a community spread.

It was reported a local from Milandhoo with connection to the vessel 'Amaaz' had tested positive for the virus as well.

A total of 10 individuals tested positive to the contagion after coming into close contact with the captain of the vessel 'Amaaz' while authorities further attest 118 individuals who came in contact with the boat captain have been identified through contact tracing.

Strong symptoms of the virus were discovered from 13 high-risk subjects from the contacts.
