National Emergency Operations Center NEOC Spokesperson Mohamed Mabrook Azeez says Maldives has no shortages of ambulances as public uproar about the lack of timely emergency services intensifies.

Answering a question from ‘The Press’ at the latest news briefing, Mabrook said although there were complaints about the call centers, the centers have now revamped its services to cater for more calls.

Mabrook conceded that there were coordination issues and officials were attending to these issues. He added that these improvements would be on show in from day to day services.

Addressing the public complaints about the shortages of ambulances, Mabrook said the country’s healthcare system is not that run-down that more ambulances are required to cater for a shortage. He explained that only the Rapid Response Teams are using the emergency vehicles and all the other vehicles should be at hand if the need arises.

Speaking more about the country’s healthcare system, medical resources, and personnel, Mabrook said even with trained personnel, doctors, and medical supplies there are still hurdles to be overcome.

He added that one of these is the lack of medical equipment required for the fight against the global pandemic.
