Maldives government extend the State of Public Health Emergency duration once again amid intensifying COVID-19 spread.
Minister of Health Abdulla Ameen signed declaration extends the Public Health Emergency period until 30 May 2020.
The extension was ordered by the powers vested to Minister Ameen under the Section 33 of the Public Health Protection Act.
Minister Ameen asserts continuing dangers of COVID-19 community spread without any visible sign of complete eradication in the immediate future. He further notified the previously announced Public Health Emergency was still in effect while an extension on it has been announced.
Accordingly, the minister had clarified the State of Public Health Emergency will remain effective from 12 March; the date of first declaration, until 30 May; the new extended duration.
Government will be placing strict counter and safety measures to ensure curbing any further spread of the viral contagion, as attested by the Minister of Health as well.
