Health Protection Agency HPA confirms 4 more individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 with government hinting the lockdown of the capital Male’ City might be prolonged.
In a tweet, HPA reported that the four individuals include two Indians nationals and a Sri Lankan national. It added that a Maldivian national was also tested positive for Covid-19 today.
HPA had confirmed that 13 people have tested positive for the global pandemic in the last 24 hours in Maldives.
Today’s positive cases take the total to a staggering 141 individuals. This includes 69 locals and 72 foreigners.
Looking at the statistics from the past 6 days, with exemption of April 22nd, HPA had reported 15 or more cases on a daily basis. On that day the agency only confirmed 2 cases in the country.
Government has taken several strict measures to quell the outbreak of the global pandemic in the country with Male’ Area under lockdown since 15th of April.
Earlier, Health Minister Abdullah Ameen had said that the lockdown announced for 2 weeks might yet be prolonged to deter the sudden spread of the virus in the country. He noted that with such a surge in positive cases, the country’s healthcare system would be overwhelmed and the situation would become catastrophic.
