Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital’s Dr. Moosa Murad says an individual who was under quarantine after arriving from India earlier this month has died while under treatment at Dharumavantha Hospital.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Murad said the person was tested for Covid-19 upon arrival at the quarantine facility setup in the Hospital and was tested negative. Dr. Murad said the deceased was among the Maldivians who arrived back from India on government’s rescue flight having gone to the country for medicinal purposes.
Dr. Murad clarified that the patient was transferred to the hospital after being placed at a quarantine facility and was treated for the individual’s underlying illness.
He confirmed that the patient was monitored closely and that the individual showed no symptoms of Covid-19 up until the death.
A total of 86 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Maldives with 66 tested in Male’ alone. Authorities are taking several steps to quell the further spread of the virus including placing Male’ Area under lockdown for 2 weeks and banning non-essential travel between the islands.
