Health Protection Agency HPA says a sample taken from a Maldivian national has tested positive for Covid-19 as authorities work to trace contacts of the positive cases.

In a tweet, HPA said this person was the 15th individual to become positive for the global pandemic in the capital Male’. The person is currently being transferred to an isolation facility.

HPA said that it was establishing any links to the others cases from Male’.

A total of 35 individuals have now tested positive for Covid-19 in Maldives with most recent cases all found from Male’. 7 individuals was tested positive for Covid-19 in Male’ in the last 24hrs alone.

Authorities have now identified three clusters of community spread of Covid-19 in Male’ since the first case, case 21 tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday.

Cluster one contained case 21, the first positive case from Male’, its direct contacts case 22 (infant child of case 21) and case 23 (relative) that tested positive on Thursday. Two other cases, case 24 (Spouse of case 23) and case 25 (Child of case 23) tested positive on Friday along with case 26, a direct contact of case 23.

Two other unrelated cases, case 27 and case 28 tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday after presenting to the flu clinics and HPA classified these two cases as two new clusters.

Cluster two stemmed from case 27 after three direct contacts of the individual tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday. These are cases 29, 30 and 34. Also a Bangladeshi national (case 32) tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday identified as a direct contact of case 30.

Cluster three roots from case 28 and two other direct contacts of this individual tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday (Cases 31 and 33). Case 35 is yet to be linked with any existing cluster.

From Male’ 7 females, 5 males and 3 children have now been infected with the virus.

This includes 14 Maldivian nationals and 1 foreign national living in Male’.
