Maldives President have granted official respite on the criminal sentences of 105 prisoners.
The island nation's statesman granted respite for the convicts to ensure their health safety and security.
Meanwhile Ministry of Home Affairs claimed several prerequisites were assessed prior to the grant of respite on the criminal sentences of the prisoners.
According to the ministry, assessments were made on the participation in rehabilitation programs by prisoners, feedback and results of psychological evaluations as well as living conditions of prisoners whose sentences were either reprieved or respited.
Ministry of Home Affairs further commented, attempts have been made to ensure safety and well-being of prisoners, to reduce crowding in penitentiaries.
