Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs have confirmed efforts to fly in Maldivian students from Bangladesh and Nepal on 20 April 2020.

The ministry on Saturday confirmed a total of 18 Maldivians are expected to fly in from Nepal while 51 local students will fly in from Bangladesh.

The students are flying into Maldives post discussions between the island nation's government and Bangladesh government. Stranded students will be flown to their home country via a military aircraft.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs further commented the 18 Maldivian students currently at Nepal will be flying to Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Sunday, 19 April 2020 to fly with batch of 51 students at Bangladesh.

Earlier Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid had contacted his Bangladeshi counterpart twice to hold discussions in flying in Maldivian students back to their home country.

Meanwhile, it has been reported an expert medical team from Bangladesh will be flying along with local students to Maldives.

A military vessel from Bangladesh is expected to berth in Maldives with over 100 ton of aid and relief items, in the coming week.
