A speed boat captain who traveled to Addu City Hithadhoo without permit from Health Protection Agency (HPA) have been placed under police custody.

The speed boat captain had traveled to the Addu City capital on Saturday morning along with a few individuals employed at a local resort.

Maldives Police Service on Saturday, 18 April 2020, confirmed they received the report around 08:15hrs on Saturday morning. Authorities further noted the boat captain had not acquired necessary permission from HPA prior to the trip.

The island nation is currently exercising a nationwide lockdown in light of Maldives capital, Male' City reporting multiple positive cases for the COVID-19 virus.

All forms of general and public transportation have been banned, and vehicle and vessel owners should acquire permission from relevant authorities prior to any trip.

The speed boat captain have since been placed under police custody for the breach in conduct.

Male' City came under full lockdown on 15 April 2020, Wednesday, afternoon while the entire country came under lockdown after 18:00hrs of Friday, 17 April 2020.

Meanwhile, HPA has ordered on local islands to limit travel between each island only for mandatory needs. Moreover, such trips must be informed and acquired permit from the respective local council authority before any trips.
