Islamic Ministry bans congregational prayers in Addu City and Fuvamulah City in light of the recent escalation of Covid-19 global pandemic in Maldives.

In a statement, Islamic Ministry said congregational prayers in the two cities would be suspended from Maqrib prayers today until Asr prayers next Thursday.

The Ministry instructed Imams to continue calling for prayer and urge the public to perform their prayers at home.

The Ministry also advised the public to be diligent in their prayers and religious responsibilities.

Authorities have confirmed community spread of Covid-19 in the country after the discovery of the first positive case of the virus in Male’ on Wednesday. Since, then a total of 14 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 in Male’.

HPA has also banned non-essential travel between the Islands to further deter the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
