Maldives Ports Limited MPL says it has resumed its cargo clearance operations today amid the lockdown announced in Male Area for 14-days.

In a tweet, MPL said it would prioritize the clearance of perishable cargo and other essential commodities.

MPL also said in light of recent escalation of Covid-19 in the Maldives, it would be accepting payment only through Bandharu Portal and online transfers.

Speaking to the media yesterday, CEO of MPL Shahid Ali said the company would wavier demurrage charges during the lockdown period. He said MPL was working to ease its operations to cater for the needs of all businesses during this trying times.

Greater Male' Area is currently under a 14-day lockdown amid the community spread of Covid-19 virus in Maldives. Fourteen cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Male' area in 4 days.
