Authorities have raised the alert status of Male’ to Red-Level 4 after a Maldivian living in Male’ city tested positive for Covid-19.

Health Protection Agency HPA said the individual who tested positive for Covid-19 today in Male’ had not recent travel history and had no contact with a person previously tested positive for the virus.

HPA said this confirms the community spread of the virus in the Male’ area and has since raised it’s alert status to Red-Level 4.

Red-Level 4 is declared when human to human transmissions with no direct link to imported case is confirmed.

HPA had identified more than 60 direct contacts of the positive case from earlier this morning with one direct contact already testing positive for the virus this evening.

Authorities had announced earlier that effective from 15:30hrs today, a complete restriction of movement and stopping of Public transport services in Greater Male’ region for 24 hours.
