The island of Kaafu atoll Kaashidhoo on Wednesday has announced a temporary prohibition of travels in and out of the island.

The island has cordoned off in light of the recent news on Wednesday morning, with a COVID-19 positive case discovered from Maldives capital; Male' City.

A letter signed by Director General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakur, citing the island of Kaashidhoo was under monitoring regarding the viral pandemic, was delivered to Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed.

The Director General had forwarded a letter to the island's council authority, demanding for a cease of traveling in an out of Kaashidhoo. Health authorities will be monitoring the island to make assessment with regards to the possible presence of the virus.

Earlier on Wednesday, health authorities confirmed a positive case was discovered from Male' City. Meanwhile, Health Protection Agency (HPA) has commenced contact tracing and quarantine on other residents of the building where the case was discovered.

The presence of the virus was confirmed after the individual consulted at local flu clinic for symptoms of cold. Post tests for COVID-19, it was discovered the Maldivian local had contracted the disease.
