Hulhumale Development Corporation HDC says it has collected 20 jumbo bags of waste from Hulhumale’ lagoon yesterday alone.
In a tweet, HDC urged the public to reduce single-use plastics and to refrain from littering; whether it’s to the ocean, beach, roads or living neighborhoods.
HDC cleaned the lagoon after the images of the waste polluted lagoon made their rounds on social media with many pointing fingers at HDC, accusing the corporation of failing to keep the lagoon unpolluted.
Previously, HDC had explained that the accumulation of waste in Hulhumale lagoon had not escaped their attention and that this was a sudden occurrence caused by the change in climate and not a result of negligence.
