Foreign Ministry says it is working to deliver the 1218 care packages sent to Maldivians living in three countries amidst the Covid-19 that has been grappling the whole globe since the beginning of the new decade.
The Ministry said out of the 622 care packages sent to Maldivians living in Lanka, 500 have now been delivered to their recipients. It said the remaining 122 packages would be delivered tomorrow.
Foreign Ministry said 144 sent to India cleared customs and arrived at the Consulate General yesterday and that deliveries have already begun.
The Ministry clarified that 452 packages were sent to families in Malaysia but noted that only 65 had been delivered to its recipients. The Ministry said that arrival of the shipment coincided with the weekend and that deliveries were slower than expected with High Commission staff juggling the Movement Control Order currently in place in Malaysia to deter mass spread of Covid-19.
Foreign ministry highlighted that all these cities are currently on lockdown and that its diplomatic missions are doing their best to deliver these packages as soon as possible.
