The International Air Transport Association (IATA) forecast a loss of an expected USD507 million for Maldivian airline industry in 2020.
IATA's forecast of the loss to Maldivian airline industry come in light of the COVID-19 pandemic; which stagnated the aviation industry and flight movements both domestically and on international front.
Moreover, local travel and tourism related magazine Maldives Insider notes the industry faces a loss of employment for more than 28,000 individuals on top of the heavy financial detriment.
Initial forecast from IATA notes the aviation industry of Maldives will expectedly fly over 2.1 million passengers, and generate an approximate revenue of USD1.4 billion.
However, in light of the viral pandemic upending the industry's growth and activity, the passenger carrying capacity will reduce by 40 percent.
