Islamic Ministry extends the ban placed on the five congregational prayers and Friday prayers in the greater Male’ region till 18th of April.

In a statement the Ministry said congregational prayers and Friday prayers would be restricted in Male, Hulhumale, Villimale and resorts near the Male area until 18th of this month.

The Ministry also said congregational prayers and Friday prayer would be restricted in Islands and resorts placed under Health Protection Agency lockdown until such a lockdown is lifted by relevant authorities.

The Ministry instructed Imams to continue calling for prayer and urge the public to perform their prayers at home.

Islamic Ministy first announced these restrictions on the 18th of last month, after the government had declared a State of Public Health Emergency because of the Covid-19 crisis.

The government had extended the state of public health emergency until the 30th of this month yesterday, with authorities warning that the spread of the global pandemic cannot be taken lightly.

Nineteen people have tested positive for Covid-19 here in the Maldives including four Maldivians. These four Maldivians came back from the UK and are currently the only covid-19 patients under treatment.
