Maldives State Shipping Company MSS begins its liner service operations with it’s first cargo ship docking in Male’ Harbor today.
MMS’s sister company STO hosted a special ceremony to commemorate the liner services maiden voyage. STO welcomed the MV. Iberian Express with a water salute as it docked in Male’ Harbor.
Speaking about the MSS liner before, STO's Managing Director Mr Hussain Amr asserted on the importance of Maldives holding right of ownership on the country's very own shipping line; especially during times of severe economic distress.
MV. Iberian Express has the capacity to carry 700 containers measuring 20 feet. The ship carried staple goods and medical supplies.
The Maldives government's initiative comes as means to facilitate the means of shipping in order to import necessary items to the country; with full consideration into any possible hindrances from third-party shipping liners during the current situation.
