State Trading Organization STO Managing Director Hussain Amr says STO is working to set-up an AgriCenter, which would buy produce directly from farmers’.
Speaking to the media earlier today, Amr said STO is planning a number of initiatives to develop the Agriculture sector. He added that STO is well equipped to buy produce directly from farmers.
He said STO is working to set-up the AgriCenter in a way that allow the sale of produce at the center. Amr said STO wants to buy the produce from the farmers and pay them for the produce without delay.
STO urged farmers to register at the company in order to participate in the program. It said farmers are required to fill a registration form and that this form is available through the company’s website as well from STO outlets and pharmacies across the nation.
STO said upon registration each farmer would be assigned a unique ID within three days. STO advised farmers to label their produce correctly before loading onto sea vessels and notify STO via its hotline.
STO said its collection points would receive the produce but will not accept damaged or produce gone bad. The company said it would notify the payable amount for the produce via sms and the farmer would receive the payment within two working days.
