Official spokesperson for Covid-19 related updates Mr. Mabrouk Azeez says test samples have been taken from 45 individuals who returned from the UK between 14th and 19th of March.
Addressing the media, Mr. Mabrouk said up until now samples have been taken from 45 individuals who traveled back from the UK between 14th and 19th of March.
Mr. Mabrouk said authorities were working to take samples from all the individuals who travelled to Maldives from the UK within those dates and are striving for efficiency. He added that some people were spreading misinformation at these pressing times and that it is disheartening to hear.
Singling out the misinformation spread via social media today, Mr. Mabrouk urged all to refrain from spreading lies and fabrications. Mr. Mabrouk said Maldivians coming abroad have all received the same treatment and no one has received any special attention or reception. He said the government sanctioned quarantine facilities hosted children of Cabinet Ministers and family member of government top officials.
Meanwhile, Parliament Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed was tested for Covid-19 yesterday. Nasheed made a trip to the UK last month and returned back on the 15th of March.
Four Maldivians have tested positive for Covid-19 will all four of them having returned from the UK.
